It's easy to say that this won't affect that many women, so why should we be upset, but violence against women is still violence against women.

"The Oklahoma State Legislature is playing doctor again. Last year they dictated how specialists at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center may care for pregnant women who have medical complications. This week, despite intense lobbying efforts and the Governor’s veto, the legislature passed Senate Bill 1878, which mandates invasive and unnecessary medical testing for women.

Under the guise of obtaining informed patient consent, this new law requires doctors to withhold pregnancy termination until an ultrasound is performed. The law states that either an abdominal or vaginal ultrasound, whichever gives the best image of the fetus, must be done. Neither the patient nor the doctor can decide which type of ultrasound to use, and the patient cannot opt out of the ultrasound and still have the procedure. In effect, then, the legislature has mandated that a woman have an instrument placed in her vagina for no medical benefit. The law makes no exception for victims of rape and incest."

Wow, now it has been legally mandated that women's bodies can be invaded against their will. What's next?

4/19/08 11:36 pm - fanfic questions

How to ask without sounding like I want someone to write it for me, oh wait, I do, j/k.

Seriously, I am attempting to write a paper which hypothesizes that fanfic communities are complex adaptive systems (CAS), and that even though they are large, and sometimes huge, because they are CAS the problem based learning model applies. So far theories maintain that pbl only applies to small groups because of the level of cooperation and feedback necessary to make them work. From what I've seen within the communities my daughter is in, that is not the case.

I am in need of some anecdotal evidence, as well as any communities that might help me either prove or disprove what I am attempting.

I have the research already on group learning, tons of background material on fanfic communities, as well as the current theories on CAS.

So to any who have the inclination to do so, your input would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know how long I'll hang out, because IJ doesn't seem to be very user friendly and the load time makes me crazy. But for now....

So, if you want to be my friend....lol...leave a comment dammit!
